Fallberichte lassen vermuten, dass das Gichtmittel Febuxostat in seltenen Fällen ein DRESS-Syndrom («Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms») verursachen kann. Die kanadische Arzneimittelbehörde hat deshalb verfügt, dass ein entsprechender Hinweis in die Fachinformation aufgenommen wird.
